All animals must be treated with dignity!

  |   Cruelty, Message from Anima, Our Policy

For your own safety, do you want to be muzzled?

For your own safety, do you want to be caged?

Anima is a Society that protects all animals, not only dogs or cats, birds or rabbits.
Any living creature is subject to our concern.
No animal, including those that belong to our chain of food consumption (not all of us are veggies activists), should be treated with cruelty.
Animals that belong to our chain of food consumption should be respected and any unnecessary cruel treatment should be severely punished or avoided.
We are a kind of Association that respects life.
As so, we do not kill, unless in very extreme situations when animals enter in suffer and no other treatment is possible! Life is the most important thing for all of us, including non-humans animals!
There are organizations that kill animals because they think is better killing them than leaving them subject to the risks outside our houses, in streets or in mountains.
We may understand the reasons behind this, but we disagree!
They kill old animals and animals that they consider not adoptable or with difficulty to be adopted, as a way to give an option to young or more adoptable animals to find families, as space is, for sure, limited.
We may understand their concerns, but we disagree!
However, there are some groups of volunteers, non-professional organizations, with no knowledge about animal welfare or concerns about the dignity of life that prefer to cage animals almost forever in tiny cages for saving them from the risk of life. They take the animals from the streets and do not care about how they will live afterwards!
For them, this captivity, almost forever,  in tiny cages, is an option. For them muzzling  animals only because of their size, even with no past of violence, is an option!
We do not understand and we strongly disagree!
All forms of captivity  can only be accepted temporarily! Captivity as a rule and as an option is also insane, a violence against ethics and an infamous cruelty!
Shelters may only exist as  an emergency scenario to save animals until they find a family!

Shelters are not the best for animals not even the safest place for them!

We will be very happy if all our animals are adopted, no animal is abandoned and shelters don’t need to exist anymore!

Unfortunately, this is still a dream, but as humans, dreams must command our lives!

Believe me, shelters are not the best solution for anybody, including non-humans animals!
A family is the only acceptable solution for pets, provided they are as free as we are!
Freedom is a very important principle for our life as humans and also for non-humans animals!

When shelters work as an emergency scenario, they must comply with rules that provide dignity to animals!
In shelters, animals must live in groups with their buddies, with play times, the best our human values  can offer!
People that cage animals as a rule, isolating animals from others, violate all international standards of human dignity, of animal rescue rules and animal welfare!

Do you prefer the risk of living free or do you prefer to live inside a (tiny) cage forever?
This is cruelty, stupidity, ignorance and a violence of all rules of dignity!
Taking animals from their environment, which for sure is not totally safe, to put them in that kind of captivity, almost forever, is insane!

Taking animals from their environment, which may not be totally safe,  for putting them together with others without making a proper socialization is cruelty, as they can kill or be killed by others!

Is that what you want?

We do not want this! So, don’t try to make Anima a warehouse of animals!

That is the reason why we have a Special Protection Program (SPP) trying our best to keep colonies of animals out of Anima, as we are limited and eager of our mission: our space is limited, we do not kill and do not  cage and we want animals in group housing which make socialization in the shelter more difficult. With this program we keep them free in their environement, de-sex  them, feed them and provide the necessary care and medical assistance. Once sick they come to us to be treated and afterwards come back. Some, even take several weeks with us. Others can not go back again as they loose their legs and are too old or too young to survive outside. Last year those animals costed to us more than MOP 500,000!

We are aware of our limitations! But we will not kill, cage or keep animals alone for increasing our capacity to receive others!
We are sorry if you do not agree with us!
That is the reason why we have every two years elections for our boards. Who has different ideas can run for the boards!

If you want really to help  us, or any other organization that respect those rules of dignity, please be at least active and help us to help them, the way you can! Talking is easy!

Thank You!
