Anima–November Rescue (1812-Bun Bun)!

<13-11-2016>
1812-Bun Bun (M), with an estimated age of two years old, was rescued by Anima on 13th November 2016, after a call from a volunteer reporting that a bulldog was found in Rua de Entre-Campos and he was asking food from the tourists.
He was taken to our Cat Paradise and we gave immediately dry food and water and he rapidly ate all and drank lots of water.
No microchip was found on him.
Our supervisor Zoe leashed him and walked with him for almost one hour in the place nearby where he was found, but seems no one was looking for him.
We even talked to the people over there, but no one knew this dog.
Bun Bun was then transferred to Anima main shelter.
We have decided that, once we know the owner, we will give the dog back to him/her, if he/she can proof the dog belongs to him/her, was only lost and not abandoned, and if he/her accepts to register the dog with us in IACM.
After we received a call from someone referring that was the owner’s friend, telling that Bun Bun was living in a Coloane temple nearby the village of Coloane and always tied up. The dog was not living at the owner’s house!
According to him, he was feed morning time with bread and night time with little dry food.
According to our Code of Ethics, we decided not to deliver Bun Bun back to the assumed owner as this was not the right way to treat animals.
And this people also violates the law for the protection of animals that has recently been approved.
Later the assumed owner showed up with his friend and threatened us, telling  that if we don’t give him back the dog, he will put messages in facebook against Anima attitude.
We have reported to the police and asked their presence in Anima.
The attitude of the police was also not good, as was taking position for one of the parts, threatening Anima with a fine if we do not give the dog back to the assumed owner  and informing us that will report that we have stolen Bun Bun from a temple. Our President complained in written to the Chief Police.
In this situation, we have to send Bun Bun to IACM to proof that he had no microchip.
By our Civil Law, unfortunately an animal is only a “thing” and once caught in public area who caught has the right to keep him.
We want to use this right as we think the animal will be mistreated again!
Once we have Bun Bun back, a good family is waiting for him. A letter was also sent to IACM reporting what happened!
We want the best for Bun Bun and hope IACM will make the right decision.
Please help us to help them!
